Sydney, Australia - PlayUp Interactive, the online betting operator that operates under the Draftstars brand, has been fined a record AU$586,000 (~$390,000) for offering free bets to potential players.
The penalty, imposed by the Downing Centre Local Court on Monday, August 12, 2024, marks the largest fine ever levied against an online betting operator in Australia.
The investigation, conducted by Liquor & Gaming NSW, found that PlayUp Interactive ran dozens of advertisements between 2021 and 2023 that offered free bets as an inducement to gamble. This practice is illegal under Australian law.
