Omar Faces Primary Challengers in Minnesota
Ilhan Omar, Progressive Squad Member, Up for Reelection
Voters in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs will decide Tuesday whether Rep. Ilhan Omar will advance to the general election in November.
Omar, a member of the progressive "squad" in the House of Representatives, is facing multiple primary challengers. The polls will close at 8 pm, and results will be updated every 15 minutes or less.
Omar is seeking her third term in Congress. She has been a vocal critic of Israel and has supported the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which aims to pressure Israel to change its policies toward Palestinians.
One of Omar's challengers is Don Samuels, a former Minneapolis City Council member. Samuels has criticized Omar for her support of BDS and has said that she is too focused on national issues and not enough on local concerns.
Another challenger is Antone Melton-Meaux, a community activist who has run for office several times before. Melton-Meaux has said that he is running to represent the working class and people of color in the district.
The outcome of the primary will be closely watched, as it could provide an indication of the strength of the progressive movement in the Democratic Party.
Voters in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs can view the results of the primary election for House, including live results and maps by county and district.
