Mets End Brutal Road Trip Get Walk Off Homer From Alvarez

Mets End Brutal Road Trip, Get Walk-Off Homer From Alvarez

Winker's Ninth-Inning Home Run Lifts Mets to Victory

Mets' Offensive Woes End In Dramatic Fashion

The Mets finally got some clutch hitting when they needed it most.

Pinch-hitter Jesse Winker led off the ninth inning with a home run to give the Mets a 3-2 walk-off win over the Rockies on Saturday.

It was Winker's first home run as a Met and it came at a crucial time.

  • The Mets had lost four of their last five games and were in danger of falling out of first place in the NL East.
  • The Rockies had won three of the first four games of the series.

But Winker's home run saved the day and the Mets avoided a disastrous end to their 10-game road trip.

Alvarez Breaks Out of Slump with Big Hit

Francisco Alvarez has been struggling at the plate lately, but he came up big for the Mets on Saturday.

With a 3-0 count in the bottom of the ninth inning, Alvarez turned on an up-and-in fastball and ripped it 421 feet into the left-field bleachers for a solo home run.

It was Alvarez's first home run since July 29 and it couldn't have come at a better time. His homer tied the game at 2-2 and set the stage for Winker's walk-off blast.

Mets' Bullpen Comes Up Big

The Mets bullpen has been shaky at times this season, but it came up big on Saturday.

After starter David Peterson was lifted after five innings, the bullpen threw four scoreless innings, allowing only one hit.

Seth Lugo, Trevor May, and Edwin Diaz all pitched scoreless innings, and Diaz struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the win.

Looking Ahead

The Mets will return home to face the Braves in a three-game series starting on Monday.

The Braves are one of the hottest teams in baseball, so the Mets will need to be at their best to take the series.
