Cadillac on Pole Position, Kubica Stumbles
Cadillac takes the lead at Daytona, Kubica crashes during qualifying
Daytona, Florida - January 26th, 2023
Cadillac has secured the pole position at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, with Earl Bamber setting a blistering lap time of 1:33.522 in the No. 01 Cadillac DPi-V.R. This marks the first time since 2017 the GM brand has qualified on pole for the prestigious endurance race.
Helio Castroneves will start alongside Bamber in the No. 02 Cadillac, completing an all-Cadillac front row for the race. Defending race winners Meyer Shank Racing with Curb-Agajanian will start third with Tom Blomqvist behind the wheel of the No. 60 Acura ARX-06, while Ricky Taylor will start fourth in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura.
Robert Kubica's Rolex 24 debut has ended prematurely after the Polish driver crashed the No. 54 Ligier JS P2 during qualifying. Kubica lost control of the car exiting Turn 3, sending it spinning into the tire barriers. The impact heavily damaged the car and forced the team to withdraw it from the race.
Kubica was uninjured in the crash but was visibly disappointed, saying "I'm sorry for the team. The car was good, and we had a chance to qualify well. It's frustrating to end the weekend like this." Despite the setback, Kubica expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to race at Daytona and vowed to return in the future.
The Rolex 24 at Daytona is scheduled to start at 1:40 pm EST on Saturday, January 28th. Cadillac will be aiming for its sixth overall victory in the race, while Kubica will look to bounce back from his qualifying setback in future events.
